Feeling inspired post- #NCECA (National Council on Education for the Ceramic Arts). Thanks @hpbloomer for the marvelous mug and @noelbaileyceramics for the beautiful bowl. Now time to get back in the studio and get shit done.
Teapot #5: Sometimes they just don't work out. Instead of the red glaze blending it just dripped and made a big ol' mess. Sadly this shape was my favorite of all the sets but just turned out so ugly in the final stage. At least I've learned not to use that combo again. 😂
Welp, 4 out of 5 aint too bad.
Tea time. In and of itself the act of having tea is very ceremonial. Whether with friends or just to relax by oneself the teapot becomes more than a fictional vessel for tea- it become a vessel for the experience.
Inspiration found from Michael Sherill's teapots; this was just a ridiculously fun teapot set to make. From the shape to the the glaze, I wanted to convey a playfulness in this pot. ❤
Our midterm project was to make 5 sets of teapots with 3 accompanying cups. Words can't even describe how much better I've gotten at making these compared to last semester.
This is actually take two of this teapot because the first version exploded in the kiln. Most likely it still had a little moisture in the base. However, take two was a success! Channeling my inner minimalist, I went for sleek and modern. Overall, happy the glaze on the handle didn't drip anymore and end up sticking to the shelf.
There are soooo many places a teapots can go wrong in the process- i.e. dribbly spout, glazed shut lid, too large of a handle. Aaand on top of that trying to make the whole body of the pot flow- does it have a personality? What is it trying to say?
This is a SASSY teapot. Using an embroidery cross stitch hoop I was able to slice the top of the teapot off, flip it around, then reattach it as means to get the little tilt shown. I just love the simplicity of the glaze combos. I originally thought the brush strokes would end up red but when combined with the shiny white it made it this brilliant yellow/gold. SO pleased!
